I barely see any people making progress at the gym.
People come and go.
Some of them are regulars, some of them quit after some time.
Fat people keep staying fat.
Weak people keep staying weak.
I became an expert on guessing who will be able to make any noticeable progress at the gym.
Only few seconds of watching a man’s training is enough for me to tell if he will be able to get in better shape.
Overtraining is a joke.
I’ve seen thousands of people training in various gyms around the world.
I’ve seen only 2 men who may be overtraining. And that’s a maybe. Even them were probably not overtraining.
Six months ago I noticed an enthusiastic new young man in the gym.
He was covered with sweat, voraciously lifting weights when I arrived at the weight room.
He looked small and weak. He only could lift baby weights.
By the time I finished my training and left, he was still training with the same enthusiasm, dripping in even more sweat.
Next time I went to the gym, he was there again, training hard.
I was lifting heavy. He noticed that and came to talk to me.
He started asking a million questions. He was all ears when he was listening to my answers.
I advised him to keep training hard and told him he will make it if he doesn’t give up.
His name was Alex.
A few days later I changed gyms. I moved to a new house so I started training in a closer gym to my new home.
Meet New Alex
Last week I noticed a guy with big arms as soon as I entered the weight room of the gym.
Noticeably big arms are rare in the gyms at this part of the world because local people are usually small built.
When I was warming up, somebody tapped on my shoulder. It was the guy with big arms. When I looked at his face I recognized him. This was Alex.
I said “Wow, you got big! Congratulations!”
He answered: “I’ve been bulking”
His growth was nothing short of sensational.
We talked a bit and I learned that he has been training every single day since we last talked six months ago. Talk about overtraining.
He had been training in my gym for the last two months. I didn’t see him because he usually trained after 8 p.m. He said the gym is mostly empty after 8 p.m. so he can train more efficiently.
That’s the guy who makes progress at the gym.
- He trains hard.
- He doesn’t pussy out because he is terrified of “overtraining”.
- He doesn’t go to the gym for chasing tail. He trains at the uncrowded hours because he means business.
- He is obsessed.
