Watching TV series and playing video games are the two most common ways men waste their time.
I like reading biographies of successful men.
I’ve never seen a successful man who became great by watching TV or playing video games.
Zeigarnik Effect gets its name from Psychologist Bluma Zeigarnik.
Bluma Zeigarnik discovered that human brain hates incomplete tasks.
When we start a task, we want to finish it. Otherwise, we will feel uncomfortable until the task at hand is complete.
Since there’s the word “task” in the explanation, people have been trying to use this psychological phenomenon to treat procrastination.
Whether this approach cures procrastination (it doesn’t) is not why I’m writing this article.
I will discuss how to use it to cure your TV series or video game addiction.
How to Cure TV Series and Video Game Addiction by Understanding the Zeigarnik Effect
Zeigarnik effect is a well-known phenomenon among marketers.
They take advantage of the “finish what you start” feature of the human brain.
TV series and video games use Zeigarnik effect to hook you in.
Once you watch an episode of an enjoyable TV series or once you play an enjoyable game, you become hooked. Your brain will not feel comfortable until you complete them.
That’s how you get addicted to TV series or video games.
The simplest way to avoid getting addicted to something is not starting it in the first place.
So, the solution is simple:
Don’t start playing video games.
Don’t start watching TV series.
They do nothing for you. They cost you a huge amount of time and you get nothing back.
Use your time wisely.
I’m not saying that you shouldn’t have fun at all.
Watch a movie or a documentary at the theater.
Play games with your kids, nephews, nieces, girlfriends, friends or your family.
Better: play tennis, football, basketball or any other game that moves your ass.
There are far better ways to play than watching TV or playing video games.

I don’t put too much food on my plate because I know that when it’s on my plate I will eat it.
I don’t buy too much junk food because when it enters my kitchen I may eat it.
I don’t approach girls who are not beautiful enough so that I don’t get sucked into a relationship with a not-pretty-enough girl.
There are countless ways to use it to your advantage.
Just be aware.
Your time on earth is finite.
Don’t waste it.
